This program allows students to study mathematics as their primary teaching area alongside a second area chosen from a wide selection of science subject areas. During years one and two, students will engage in a broad tertiary education. The full professional program in curriculum begins in third year and concentrates on selected teaching areas, while continuing academic study in science units. This course is full-time study, daytime only.

Structure

A core program of study in education along with intensive study and professional experience in teaching areas. A major must be taken in mathematics. A second teaching area can be taken in one of the following: biology, chemistry, geography or physics. Graduates intending to teach Science at a secondary level must complete at least one year of study in chemistry or physics during their degree.

Standard entry requirements

  • Year 12 HSC or equivalent
  • Selection via ATAR. Assumed knowledge: HSC Mathematics Extension 1 (depending on subjects chosen), any two units of English (not ESL) (Band 5), Band 5 in two other HSC subjects. For B Science: All students in B Science must take some study in mathematics during their degree. Graduates intending to teach science at a secondary level must complete at least one year of study in chemistry or physics during their degree. From 2019, this course will require a course prerequisite of Mathematics (Band 4 or higher). The assumed knowledge will still apply.
