Physics reveals the natural laws at work in our everyday world and across the cosmos, and teaches the fundamental principles underpinning modern science and technology. This program is designed for students seeking broad and durable scientific knowledge and skills. Course offerings range from general physics to astronomy, climatology, medical physics and various electives. Those studying astronomy also have the opportunity to experience hands-on and remote-control astronomical observations using modern telescopes. Graduates of this degree will be equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to help prepare them for work as a scientist, with a wide range of career options including education, research and science outreach, and with potential employers including government, university, or industry.

Standard entry requirements

  • Year 12 or equivalent
  • Have achieved a minimum Overall Position (OP) 15, tertiary entrance rank 66 or equivalent qualification
  • Subject Pre-requisites: English (4, SA)
  • Mathematics A (4, SA) (until 2019)
  • From 2019 Mathematics B (4, SA) or equivalent. Recommended study: Biology, Science21, Chemistry, Physics, or equivalents. Assumed knowledge expectations: Mathematics A (4, SA) or equivalent (from 2019). International applicants must meet the University's English language requirements or have completed the University's ELICOS/EAP programs.

Further information

If students do not have the recommended Mathematics B Level for entry then they will be required to undertake MAT1000 Mathematics Fundamentals as an elective.
