The Master of Computational Biology builds specialist skills in bioinformatics, systems biology, and biological and ecological modelling. You'll take a customised first year based on your academic background, followed by a combination of core, elective and project subjects to suit your interests during your second and third years. All students undertake a research project, over 6-12 months, working on a real-world computational biology research question. You'll be matched with one of our expert researchers or industry partners, benefiting from our close connections to the 30 hospitals, medical research organisations and biotechnology institutes that make up the Melbourne Biomedical Precinct within a short walk of the Parkville campus.

Standard entry requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in an appropriate scientific discipline (Computational Biology, Biology, Biomedicine, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics and Statistics), with a course weighted average mark of at least H3 (65%)
  • Prerequisite subject MAST10005 Calculus 1 or equivalent.

Study pathways

Students who have completed a major in Computational Biology at the University of Melbourne in their undergraduate degree will be awarded 100 points of advanced standing, leaving only 200 credit points to complete.
