Primary Health encompasses an understanding of the social, economic, cultural and political causes of health. It is embraced by the World Health Organisation as it is the first level of contact individuals, families and communities have with the healthcare system. In the first year of the program, students will be introduced to the concepts of primary health and wellbeing, issues and policy, the determinants of health and wellbeing, community development and cultural safety. They will also learn about enhancing health and wellbeing through health education, health promotion and professional law and ethics. In the second year of the program, students will transition into the workplace through adopting important knowledge and skills such as research, leadership, management and building personal and professional resilience. The program will culminate in a primary health and wellbeing project which will be presented in a student-led conference.

Standard entry requirements

  • Certificate III or higher in an Health, Youth, Community or Lifestyle related area
  • SACE Completion or equivalent with a minimum ATAR of 60
  • Satisfactory achievement in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
  • Completion of at least 1 year full time equivalent of a University Degree.
