This course provides a developmental path for professional engineers to master skills in selected engineering disciplines and the interaction of those disciplines. It aims to enhance your skills in dealing with more complex engineering problems and interactions between engineering technical domains and the broader context in which they exist. Systems engineering is concerned with the design, operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems that are employed in medical, aerospace, industrial settings, and in communications technology. Engineering Management provides post-professional knowledge and skills in a range of professional engineering management disciplines. As such it aims to equip graduates with the abilities to become leaders in their chosen engineering fields. This course advances your capabilities in information literacy, problem solving, application of theory, engineering design, communication, and interaction with other professionals.

Structure

To graduate with a Master of Professional Engineering students are required to complete 192 credit points of course units consisting of: 84 credit points of Core Units comprising of: - 24cps Research Project - 12cps Research Methods - 24cps Core Professional Practice units - 12cps Advanced Disipline units - 12cps Engineering Design units Plus 108 credit points of Specialisation Discipline Units.

Standard entry requirements

Domestic students: Pathway 1 a. A completed recognised three year full time Bachelor degree in a mechanical or electrical engineering /engineering technology discipline. b. A completed recognised four year full time Bachelor degree in a non-cognate engineering discipline. Entrants will be eligible for Mechanical or Electrical SAAs only, on this pathway. Pathway 2 a. A completed recognised four year full time Bachelor degree in engineering with a grade point average of 4.0 or higher (on QUT's 7 point scale). International students: Pathway 1 a. A completed recognised three year full time Bachelor degree in a mechancial or electrical engineering / engineering technology discipline b. A completed recognised four year full time Bachelor degree in a non cognate engineering discipline. Entrants will be eligible for Mechanical or Electrical SAAs only on this pathway. Pathway 2 a. A completed recognised four year full time Bachelor degree in engineering with a grade point average of 4.0 or higher (on QUT's 7 point scale). b. A completed Graduate Certificate in Communication for Engineering (EN60). Note: Ineligible students 1. Students that have completed BN87 are ineligible for admission to the EN55 Electrical and Management / Mechanical and Management study areas. 2. Students that have completed EN50 are ineligible for admission to the EN55 Mechanical or Electrical study areas.

Recognition

As a graduate of EN55 Master of Professional Engineering, you will be an Engineers Australia-accredited professional engineer with advanced cutting-edge knowledge and skills in a chosen engineering field or engineering management role. Professional accreditation allows you to work as professional engineer in countries that are signatories of the Washington accord without having to justify their knowledge and skills.
