This double degree program will prepare students to understand both the business and psychological forces that impact on organisations. Students will graduate with a solid understanding of human behaviour and how to apply this to organisational settings. They will also gain research and business skills that they can apply across a range of organisational and industrial situations. If students are aiming for a managerial career in business, they will develop the broader range of skills necessary to face the increasingly high demands of training and change management. Students can choose to work in various careers in industry and the corporate world such as human resources, finance, marketing and accounting. Graduates develop high-level communication and social skills suitable for careers in counselling, management, training and development. Graduates work in a diverse range of interesting careers, taking on positions such as: organisational change manager, business adviser or human resources manager.

Structure

The course is 384 credit points comprised of 16 Psychology units and 16 Business units (8 core business units and 8 core units from a business major) . Students will complete an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited program of study in Psychology.

Standard entry requirements

  • Year 12 or equivalent
  • Assumed knowledge: English, or Literature, or English and Literature, or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 & 4, C)
  • And for Accountancy, Finance, Financial planning, Economics and Marketing majors: General Mathematics, or Mathematical Methods, or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C).

Recognition

The Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council. To pursue a career in a professional area of psychology, you will need to undertake further study to gain registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Subject to choice of Business major and units: CPA Australia; Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and Institute of Public Accountants. Account Planning Group Australia, the Australasian Writers and Art Directors Association, the Australian Direct Marketing Association, the Communications Council, Youngbloods and nGen. Study pathways

Students considering registration with Psychology Board of Australia must also complete an approved fourth year of study in psychology, (e.g. Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Honours Psychology) and a further 2 years of either supervised work experience or completion of an appropriate higher degree (e.g. Master of Psychology (Educational and Developmental), Master of Clinical Psychology. Students may be able to claim credit for part of their course, on the basis of completed or partially completed studies, and other assessable learning outcomes.
