This course offers students hands-on practical training work through practice-based learning approach and the mandatory industry internship program which may lead into employment. It is taught by lecturers with relevant industry experience and some still in industry. It will equip students to plan, design, implement and manage telecommunication technology and infrastructure. The course explores the latest wired and wireless network technologies and broadband wireless networks. This means students will learn about these state-of-the-art technologies and their implementation and management in an applied environment. In addition, electives in IT, security and information systems will make students a work-ready graduate with solid technical knowledge and able to apply these skills at work. It is a great foundation also for future technologies such as robotics, mechatronics, home automation, Internet of things and mobile networks.

Structure

The program is delivered as a mix of compulsory core units and electives that may make up a specialisation. Graduates are required to complete 360 credit points, by completing a total of 24 units (21 core units and 3 electives), 15 credit points each.

Standard entry requirements

  • Year 12 or equivalent
  • Completion of units 3 and 4 with a study score of at least 20 in English (any) and one of further mathematics, mathematical methods or specialist mathematics

Recognition

The Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Telecommunications) is accredited by the Tertiary Educational Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA). It also has provisional accreditation at the level of Engineering Technologist by Engineering Australia (EA)

Study pathways

TAFE graduates with a relevant 1.5 years Diploma could be eligible to receive up to one year's credit transfer. TAFE graduates with a relevant 2-years Advanced Diploma could be eligible to receive up to 1.5-years' credit transfer.
