This degree aims to give students the unique skills required to create smart business opportunities and drive innovation across a broad range of business settings. There is also scope to explore business innovation within an international context. Students will learn from academic staff who bring a wealth of research and hands-on professional experience in areas including technology innovation, sport entrepreneurship and international entrepreneurship. Students will learn how to look at businesses and organisations from a variety of perspectives, covering areas such as managerial psychology and decision sciences, strategic management, entrepreneurship, innovation management, and leadership. There is also the opportunity to complete an independent research thesis project. Graduates will have what it takes to develop innovative business plans, manage entrepreneurial activities, and create sustainable business ventures. Graduates are now employed by companies such as Unilever, Telstra, Sheraton and Ford.

Structure

The course requires the completion of 16 subjects totalling 240 credit points. First year consists of 8 core subjects while second year consists of 3 specialisation subjects and 5 electives. Students can also complete an independent research thesis project.

Standard entry requirements

  • An Australian Bachelor's degree in any discipline or an approved equivalent qualification
  • Admission may be granted to applicants without an undergraduate degree but with five or more years of relevant work experience
  • In making an offer to an applicant, the university may give consideration to a range of factors including English proficiency, academic record and employment experience
  • NB: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

Recognition

Graduates of the Master of Management (Entrepreneurship and Innovation) may apply for membership with the International Society for Professional Innovation Management. Membership may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details.

Study pathways

Applicants with demonstrated prior learning in business, either in the form of an undergraduate degree in a business related field or with at least five years relevant business experience, will be eligible to apply for advanced standing for the four subjects of the first semester of the course. In making an offer of advanced standing to an applicant, the university may give consideration to a range of factors including academic record and employment experience.
