This program trains computing professionals in advanced and innovative areas of computer science and information. Students can either upgrade their knowledge and skills in a broad range of areas or specialise in key areas such as artificial intelligence, games technology, software engineering and software systems, and computer communications and networking. The program forms the first year of the Master of Computer Science.

Standard entry requirements
- Bachelor's degree with a major in computer science (three years), the Graduate Diploma in Information Technology, or equivalent
- Applicants should also have good skills in a modern programming language (such as C, C++, Java) and be familiar with an operating system such as UNIX or NT

- Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.
