As a social worker, you'll provide support and assistance to people and families in need. La Trobe's Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) gives you the clinical knowledge and hands-on skills to launch your career. You'll learn from world-renowned academics about promoting human rights and the importance of social justice. Our diverse range of subjects provide foundations in both psychology and sociology. Two 14-week placements enable you to put your knowledge and skills into practice and gain professional experience within leading health and welfare organisations in Victoria.

Structure

To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Social Work (Honours), students must complete 480 credit points consisting of: 420 core credit points 60 core-choice credit points

Standard entry requirements

  • Recent secondary education - VTAC prerequisite: Year 12 English prerequisite (25) - Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.
  • Recent secondary education - UAC prerequisite: Year 12 subject prerequisite - One of English Standard, English Advanced (Band 3), English as an Additional Language or Dialect (Band 4).
  • Non Year 12 - Vocational Education & Training: VET prerequisites - Course specific requirements - Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
  • Non Year 12 - Higher Education study: HE prerequisites - Course specific requirements - Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
  • International: IELTS - 7.0 < 7.0 - 7.0 IELTS (Academic) with no individual band less than 7.0.

Recognition

The Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) has provisional accreditation from The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). Professional membership may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree.
