Agribusiness combines agricultural science with business. You'll learn to help farmers improve their food production sustainably, and grow the skills to develop, finance, market and manage agricultural businesses. The commerce component is designed to develop responsible, engaged, innovative and work-ready graduates through providing you with opportunities to talk with business and work with business. The Bachelor of Commerce comprises an eight-subject common core and an eight-subject primary major, chosen from five key business disciplines of accounting, economics, finance, management and marketing. In the agricultural sciences, you learn about the relationship between plants, animals, soil and climate. You also take on subjects such as plant science, land and soil management, animal physiology, pest control, and groundwater sustainability and contamination. By combining science with business skills, you'll be equipped to help farmers improve their food production and reduce the impact on declining resources.

Structure

You must complete 480 credit points, including all core subjects of each degree. This includes 240 credit points in the Bachelor of Commerce and 240 credit points in the Bachelor of Agricultural Science.

Standard entry requirements

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL. NB: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

Recognition

The Marketing major in the Bachelor of Commerce is accredited by the Australian Marketing Institute. Depending on subject choice within the Bachelor of Commerce, students may be eligible to graduate with an accounting qualification accredited by CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ); please refer to the Handbook for further details. Membership may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree.
