While it is possible to arrange long-distance learning, it is recommend to transfer to the Melbourne Campus to complete degree with a wider selection of subjects. The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 7.
Structure
You need to: - complete a total of four years of full-time study or its equivalent (part-time study is only available to local students) - complete a sequence of the compulsory law subjects - complete a minimum of 480 credit points, including 360 credit points in law and a minimum of 120 credit points in other non-law disciplines. After completing first year, you can if you wish apply to transfer into a five-year double degree to extend your knowledge and skills in a particular area of interest (see descriptions of law double degrees for more information). Honours in law is offered in the final year based on academic merit. A grade average of B+ from two years of law study is typically required for entry into the Honours program.

Standard entry requirements
Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL. International applicants must include a personal statement addressing relevant work experience, personal accomplishments and achievements, community involvement and career goals. NB: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.
Recognition
All La Trobe University Bachelor of Laws and Juris Doctor law courses include the subjects required by the Victorian Legal Admissions Board to qualify for admission to the legal profession in Victoria as an Australian lawyer. Admission to the legal profession by the Supreme Court of Victoria also requires the completion of practical legal training either by a 12-month period of Supervised Legal Training or by completing an approved practical legal training course (for example, at the Leo Cussen Institute or The College of Law). Candidates for admission to practise must also satisfy the Admissions Board that they are a fit and proper person to be admitted to practise.
Study pathways
Honours is offered to students whose work is of a sufficiently high standard and is undertaken in the final year of the course. International students must meet the academic and English language requirements of this course.
