This program encompasses all aspects of existing veterinary practice but with a special focus on tropical and rural veterinary practice including tropical animal production. Students acquire the knowledge and skills to diagnose, treat and prevent disease in a wide range of animals, including companion animals, farm animals, aquatic species and native fauna. In addition, students acquire a thorough knowledge of animal production systems, particularly tropical animal husbandry and aquaculture. Broad clinical training is undertaken in a variety of settings across north Queensland including Townsville, Cairns, Mackay, Charters Towers and the Atherton Tableland. Graduates are eligible for registration as veterinarians.

  • Chemistry (Units 3/4,C)
  • Mathematical methods (Units 3/4,C). Recommended: Biology (Units 3/4,C). Students must provide evidence of a current First Aid/CPR certificate and immunity to Q fever within the first teaching period of their studies.


Australasian Veterinary Boards Council. Graduates are eligible to practice as veterinarians in Australia, New Zealand and UK.
