Study abroad and exchange students have access to the full range of Griffith student support services, including careers and employment, counselling, disability, health, and welfare and student liaison. Additionally, to help you settle into Australia and Griffith, the Global Mobility team hosts the following special activities:

  • Buddy program: The Griffith Mates Buddy Program on the Nathan and Gold Coast campuses is a great way for students to make friends and ask questions in a safe and comfortable environment. Current students (Senior Buddies) are matched with a small group of international students (First Year Buddies) for a free weekly coffee and a chat. At the end of six sessions you receive a Certificate of Participation.
  • Welcome orientation: Take part in activities and competitions as well as a 'Taste of Australia' event hosted by Griffith Mates.
  • Byron Bay trip: Visit one of Australia's most beautiful beachside towns for surfing lessons, kayaking and hiking.

Hiroko Fukuma, Japan

Exchange student

"I came to Griffith University as an exchange student from Japan. Although English is my second language, there is variety of support for exchange students, which helped me overcome language barriers. The Student Guild and Griffith Mates Buddy Program have been helping me a lot to adapt to Australian life."
