The Graduate Diploma in Palliative Care in Aged Care aims to provide the opportunity for individuals from any professional background who are working in health related areas to deepen their knowledge base in palliative care in ageing populations within a global context and to address particular needs within their practice and employment.

Structure

The Graduate Diploma is a 36-unit program. Students complete five core (compulsory) topics and three option topics chosen from a range of option topics available. These topics aim to provide students with the opportunity to critically discuss issues and recent developments related to providing end of life health care services to the ageing population and to identify goals and strategies in order to foster a deep approach to learning and the development of life long learning skills in palliative care in aged care.

Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants must normally hold an approved bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in a health-related discipline
  • Or hold the Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care from Flinders University or equivalent qualification. Applicants must also have a minimum of two years' full-time equivalent professional experience in the health sector or closely related field.

Study pathways

Students who hold the Graduate Certificate from Flinders receive credit for topics towards the Master of Palliative Care in Aged Care.
