Federation University Australia | Brisbane

At Federation University Australia, we’re driven to make a real difference — to the lives of every student who studies with us, and to the communities we help build and are a part of.
Ankita Ranjitkaur
Master of Technology (Enterprise Systems and Business Analytics)
When I did my research about Australia, I learnt about the diversity and mix of cultures, but what surprised me was how kind and humble the people are in Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland. I’ve found Brisbane to be a really amazing place to study, work and live and I’ve learnt a lot about the people, culture and work ethics during my time here.
Federation University is genuinely an amazing place for international students. I’ve made the most of the opportunities available through Federation’s connections with companies such as River City Labs and Arc Hardware Incubator, including internships, hackathons and networking events.
Most recently, I had the opportunity to intern as a junior business analyst with Smilo.ai, an oral health start-up at River City Labs. In that project I was able to network with Smilo.ai founder Dr Padma Gadiyar and provide consultation on what ERP (enterprise research planning) was available for her to use. I also did market analysis and competitor research to help her find the right software.
These internship opportunities, hackathons and events to meet start-up founders and learn about their projects have been invaluable. Watch the full interview here.
Melvin Flores
Master of Technology (Software Engineering)
Melvin Flores, from Paranaque City in the Philippines, is in the first year of his Master of Technology (Software Engineering) degree at Federation University’s Brisbane Campus.
“My experience has been great. The student support has been really good, and the campus has excellent facilities and is right in the heart of the city.
“I chose Federation University because the cost and the content of the course really suited me and because of the close connections the university has with a wide range of major companies.
“I’ve only been here a few months, but I’ve already had great industry experiences: I’ve done an internship program, networked with entrepreneurs, and even mentored children in simple programming, which has really been a lot of fun.
Opportunities like this have helped me to quickly build connections and feel at home in Australia.”
Sandra Villamil Ordonez
Master of Business Administration (Health Services Management)
Sandra Villamil Ordonez commenced her journey with Federation University in 2019 studying the Master of Business Administration (Health Services Management). Working as an Occupational Therapist at a local hospital, Sandra was determined to progress her career, “During my time living in Australia, I’ve enjoyed a successful work career in healthcare. I left behind my family, my friends and the life that I knew because I believed in finding a better life for my son and for myself.”
This year (2021), Sandra officially completed her degree and was asked to give an address to all Brisbane graduates at their ceremony in May.
“Graduation today is a step forward in our life plan, but it is also the beginning of a learning experience, Federation University gave us the tools and instructions to build a successful work future, but it is our duty to make that happen, challenge yourself to do and to be better every day, the only limitation to our dreams is our own mind, do not be afraid to think without limits.
We want to thank Federation University staff, who believed in us and helped us complete our studies, for all the support to the students during the last difficult year. Some of the people here are the first graduating class of FedUni Brisbane and we are very proud of that.” Watch Sandra’s address to her fellow FedUni graduates here.
