The Master of Education (MEd) is designed to support professional teacher educators who wish to consolidate, develop and enrich their teaching practice as highly accomplished or lead teachers. In doing so, the course is designed to build a deep understanding of the systems and contexts in which the work of professional educators is situated, and to develop in students the advanced knowledge and skills required to productively teach, consult, collaborate, advocate and lead in those contexts. The course will appeal particularly to those who wish to earn formal recognition for developing a comprehensive, informed and academically justified approach to their knowledge portfolio as an educator, and to their teaching practice.

  • 2 units of specialisation in one of two areas of speciality (Leadership or Curriculum)
  • and 1 Research Methods Unit and 1 Capstone Research Project Unit.

Initial teacher education qualification (Bachelor of Education, Grad. Dip of Education, Master of Teaching, etc.)

Credit is awarded for previous studies. RPL recognition is available for certified teaching experience. Graduates of this course can access higher degrees.

Further information

Graduates are typically expected to use their completed degree for advancement and promotion in their school and/or school systems. Roles such as Principals, Deputy Principals, Department Heads, Curriculum Leaders and other senior roles are envisaged as employment destinations. A smaller number of graduates may choose to use their degree for career change purposes, i.e. to facilitate a move to corporate, community, government or other education-based roles. For both groups, further study in a Masters (Research) or Doctoral Degrees is a viable option.
