Gonzalo Ceron, Equador

Master of Petroleum Engineering

Studying a postgraduate course at an overseas university can help you to move into senior or leadership roles, or to specialise in areas not possible in your home country. Gonzalo Ceron first approached a Curtin representative through Latino Australia to find out where he could learn specialist skills in petroleum engineering. "In my country we don't have too many universities offering a masters degree in my area so studying abroad was a way to enhance my skills," he says. "Applying was easy. They gave me a lot of information and I decided to come to Australia because it is an exciting place to live." "The lecturers are really good, I like the way they teach. I can talk to them during the lectures or in tutorials and they give me feedback quickly." Consistently ranked in the top ten most liveable cities in the world, Perth has a welcoming and multicultural society, with friendly people and a low crime rate. "I love Perth; it's a beautiful city," says Gonzalo. "You can travel around Western Australia. You can visit places and interact with animals; you can go to the central business district. It offers a variety of options," he says.
