Melanie Thwaits, South Africa

Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling)

Studying at ACAP offers the perfect combination of education and location, "Meeting new people, learning new cultures. Also, being in a first world country provides many more facilities to assist the learning process such as an amazing library, including an online reference library, and easy access to public transport - things many people take for granted," says Melanie. "The experiential way in which lectures are presented [in the counselling specialisation] has been extremely beneficial. I've enjoyed the interactive nature of classes and have learned so much from listening and participating in class discussions. Listening to other points of view has expanded my worldview and getting to know other students has increased my awareness that everyone has a story and the need to suspend judgement." For others who are thinking about studying at ACAP, I would say "Go for it. Believe in yourself, work hard, persevere, and it will be an amazing journey, not just in terms of academia, but also a personal journey of discovery".
