I have always seen the study of law as a tool to be able to help people defend their rights and resolve conflicts. The ANU College of Law gives me not only the legal qualification needed to become a competent legal practitioner, but also the chance to explore legal frontiers highly relevant in this modern age. Canberra is a place where one can enjoy the ultimate student life. The city can be quiet enough to support focus during intense study periods yet also buzzing with extra-curricular activities to complement life outside of academics.

I was motivated to study law at ANU because it is renowned for its teaching quality. Distinguished guest speakers and retired judges are often invited to speak at lectures, and I wanted to expand my worldview through these experiences. As an international student from Malaysia, I was excited to start a new life at the best university in Australia, yet also nervous about being immersed in a new country. Thankfully, the transition to Canberra was smooth as there were many seniors from the different clubs. A first-year law mentor was assigned to me, who answered all my questions.

I was drawn to ANU College of Law due to its stellar domestic and international reputation, as well as its presence in the nation’s capital and its proximity to government departments, policymakers and the High Court of Australia. I have been blown away by the quality of educators that the university has provided — teachers with a breadth of legal experience themselves, who are always willing to provide advice and instruction beyond the classroom, to assist the next generation of young legal minds.
