Yarra Valley Grammar


Established in 1966 and set on a sprawling 29-hectare single campus, Yarra Valley Grammar offers a coeducational independent education from an Early Learning Centre to Year 12. The school provides an extensive range of contemporary and relevant opportunities for its 1100 students and seeks to inspire them to strive for excellence. The School sets high standards of performance and encourages all students to achieve their personal best.
Experienced staff support our international students as they make the transition to an Australian education. Students have access to support and enrichment programs as well as vocational counselling and specialist advice on tertiary courses. Yarra Valley Grammar’s program is based on Christian principles and the School welcomes students of all nationalities and faiths.
Outstanding Facilities
A unique aspect of Yarra Valley Grammar is its spacious grounds and extensive on-site playing fields, including a Physical Education and Sports Complex. Yarra Valley Grammar’s contemporary Senior Student Centre provides flexible learning spaces for Year 12 students. In 2006 a dedicated Year 7 Centre was completed, providing students with a safe and contained environment in which to adapt to secondary school. There are also superior facilities for Music and Drama within the school’s 900 seat Performing Arts Centre and state-of-the-art Music School, as well as two Resource Centres, a Science Centre, tennis courts and a swimming pool. ‘Wootton Lodge’, the School’s property in Eastern Victoria provides a focus for the School’s comprehensive Outdoor Education Program

Academic Focus
Yarra Valley Grammar’s curriculum is both broad and responsive to individual student needs, with extra opportunities for enrichment and support where needed. New subjects and projects are introduced to ensure relevance to today’s students. The majority of students move on to university study with University of Melbourne and Monash University being popular choices.
Key learning areas include:
English; Arts (Fine Arts, Music and Drama); Health; Personal Development; Physical Education; Languages Other Than English; Mathematics; Science; Humanities (Social Science and Business Education); and Technology. Students study a common curriculum until the mid secondary years. Beyond this, many electives are available from which students may choose.
An extensive computer network covers the whole school and technology is integrated into the curriculum. Senior School students have access to seven information technology rooms and a multimedia laboratory
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Yarra Valley Grammar offers English as a Second Language as part of the extensive curriculum. At VCE level, the ESL program provides our international students with an opportunity to succeed in an environment that caters directly tosecond language learners. Classes are small to maximise student-teacher contact and to encourage communication in English. A support program for ESL students is offered both during and after school hours to complement the curriculum across all subject areas.
Extra-Curricular Activities

The School offers a diverse range of extra-curricular opportunities including academic, sporting and special interest clubs, debating, school magazine, drama productions, private tuition in singing and musical instruments, band, orchestra and ensembles, extensive community involvement through the Community Link Program, participation in state and national academic competitions and special enrichment and support programs
Caring For Our Students
Yarra Valley Grammar aims to instil a sense of independence and resilience in each student. Experienced staff, including the School’s Student Counsellor who oversees the Pastoral Care Program, guide students on their journey, encouraging them to achieve success. Students also have access to personal and careers counselling, providing extra support when needed.
Homestay Accommodation
Homestay accommodation is organised by Yarra Valley Grammar. The School carefully selects families in homes within easy travelling distance of the school. The homestay environment offers students an opportunity to become part of a secure family environment where they can be immersed in English and the Australian lifestyle.
