The biggest challenge of his dual roles as waiter
in Banquets at Melbourne’s Crown Casino and barman/
manager at The Roti Man restaurant in Middle Park is keeping customers happy, according to Sunny Nazrin.

“You need to give them good service and make sure they are looked after and that they get what they paid for and had a satisfactory visit,” says the Malaysian-born Hospitality Management student. “You want them to come back again.

“I would say the coolest thing (about my work is) how I can talk to customers, give them assistance, give them advice on what wine goes with what meal, up-selling, and telling them about promotions coming up.”

Sunny enjoys the generalist nature of the course – “the teachers teach a bit of everything: food and service and drinks and hygiene” – and says he’s building specialist knowledge that will help him in his long term goal of running his own restaurants and nightclubs in Australia and overseas.
