The University of Southern Queensland is a vibrant, young and expanding educational facility that welcomes students of all ages and needs, offering award programs at undergraduate and postgraduate level by on-campus, off-campus or distance education study.

Established as an institution in 1967, USQ focuses on providing quality teaching in a relaxed earning and living environment to equip graduates with a sought-after mix of life and academic skills.

This policy is paying off in the workplace with our graduates recording higher than average employment in many disciplines. The majority of courses offered by USQ can be studied full-time or part-time on-campus or by distance education with study modes able to be altered to suit the needs and busy lifestyles of our students. In 2004, USQ added the Commonwealth of Learning Award for Institutional Excellence in distance education to its growing suite of international and national awards.

USQ’s main campus is located in the Garden City of Toowoomba about 90 minutes drive west of Brisbane. With a population of over 100,000, Toowoomba boasts the provision of all four seasons with a particularly beautiful spring when the city’s gardens and parks become a noted tourist attraction. USQ has a second campus on the Fraser Coast at Hervey Bay, 300 kilometres north of Brisbane and the gateway to Fraser Island. Students enjoy USQ’s Fraser Coast campus easy access to local marine tourist attractions. USQ’s newest campus at Springfield in Brisbane’s south-west metropolitan corridor opened in 2006 and is part of Education City and a master planned community.

Student Body

Per capita, USQ is one of Australia’s most multicultural universities with enrolled students on-campus from more than 60 countries and distance students from 113 countries. USQ has won multiple awards for innovation and multiculturalism including the Commonwealth of Learning Award of Excellence for Institutional Achievement at the third Pan-Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning in 2004. Other awards include Joint Winner of The Good Universities Guides’ University of the year: 2000-2001.

Graduate Outcomes

USQ has consistently rated in the top few Australian universities in terms of student satisfaction with their programs, however the University’s own research has indicated that it is the personal support that students receive from within the USQ community is the attribute they value the most about the University. This includes students studying USQ’s award winning distance education programs.

Student Services

USQ is focussed on giving students the best opportunity to succeed at tertiary study by providing support designed to enhance the university experience. Our professionally accredited staff offer the following services on campus:
Careers and employment service, casual employment chaplaincy, health service, mentoring, counselling and workshops, learning enhancement assistance, student housing advisory service, students with disabilities services, clubs and sporting facilities and more.

Accommodation

The University offers all inclusive accommodation in three residential colleges at the Toowoomba campus and on-site student share accommodation at Springfield. Off campus accommodation close to the campuses for students in Toowoomba, Fraser Coast and Springfield can be arranged privately or via the USQ Housing Advisory Service.
