The allure of studying abroad for most students entices them to travel to a distant, exotic area of the world and immerse themselves in a new living and learning environment. When considering different study abroad programs during my second year, I came across UNSW’s program because of the excellent reputation of their Psychology department and because of the excellent location and housing options. However, I made my ultimate decision to spend my half year away from home here not because of these factors but rather because of the accommodating, friendly, inviting, and prompt responses of the study abroad office to my inquiries.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this program to anyone who is contemplating studying overseas. Being away from home for so long is a daunting and a bit intimidating concept, but the UNSW Study Abroad Program led me through the entire process, providing me with detailed information about housing, classes, expenses, packing ideas, what to expect, and even Australian culture. The orientation program helped immensely, and their willingness to help with any university-related or other problems or questions has made me feel comfortable and safe in a place so far away from my hometown. Indeed, Australia has become my second home, with Study Abroad as a type of parent that is always there for me.
I have grown so much from having this experience - becoming more well-travelled, learning to be more independent, learning about subjects at UNSW that I would not have been able to learn about in the U.S., experiencing Australian culture, and making friendships that will last long after I depart this beautiful country. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and so lucky to have had the UNSW Study Abroad Program to provide structure, support, information, and friendship to me throughout my time here. This has been an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. Thank you, UNSW Study Abroad!
