University of Ballarat - School of Information Technology & Mathematical Sciences - Student Testimonial - Jia Ming Liang

Country of Origin: China
Student Program: Master of Information Technology

I chose to study at the University of Ballarat (UB) as it has excellent teaching teams, facilities and infrastructures for its students. Another important reason for me was that the tuition fee is much cheaper than other Universities, but you get highly respected qualifications.
When I first moved to Australia it was pretty overwhelming, but UB’s International Office provided fantastic services – they helped us to find a place to live, taught us how to become familiar with study in different subjects, and introduced people to each other from different countries. The support provided by the staff at UB made it much easier for me to become familiar with my new living and studying environments.
I think one of the best things about my course is that I have learned skills for my future career, not only limited to certain professional or technical knowledge, but also in self-learning so I can continue to develop my skills and knowledge throughout my career.
Since commencing my course I have worked in a variety of IT roles, including technical support to the Australasian Computer Science Week 2007, working in an IT support role with the University of Ballarat and I am now working for SERCO, an international UK based company, in the role of Project Planner. I get to apply the IT project management skills that I learnt through my course in my every day work, to meet the requirements of our major projects. I am based at the company’s Ballarat site, which means I have been able to continue living and working here in Australia with my new friends.
