So, why come to Newcastle?

Newcastle

The University of Newcastle is ranked in the top 10 research Universities in Australia, and ranked in the top 100 Universities in the world for engineering technology and computer sciences. The University offers extensive undergraduate and postgraduate programs including most of the professional degree programs such as Architecture, Law, Medicine, Engineering, Teaching, Surveying, Social Work, Science, and Nursing. As well, we offer a vast array of courses in disciplines such as Computing, Fine Art, Modern Languages, Classics, History, Mathematics, Economics, Business, Nutrition and Dietetics, Sociology and Anthropology, Philosophy, Communications, and Tourism and Hospitality, to name just a few.

It’s a great university! We’re modern and progressive and our graduates are highly valued by employers. The student population is just under 27,000 including some 6,000 international students from more than 80 countries studying both on and off-shore.

The University is also located on one of the most beautiful campuses in Australia. With around 140 hectares of natural bushland, it’s a great introduction to Australia’s unique flora and fauna. And the city of Newcastle is a great place too. Just two hours drive north of Sydney, the population of greater Newcastle is around 500,000, it’s safe and friendly, and it offers you everything a big, modern city can – without the hassles.

In fact it’s one of the few cities in the world where you can walk to the surf from the central business district.

Accommodation

The University recognises the importance of secure, affordable and comfortable accommodation and offers both on-campus and off-campus accommodation options. There are four residential colleges on the Callaghan Campus in Newcastle, and one smaller college on the Ourimbah Campus. The University offers a homestay service, which provides you with an opportunity to live in a home with an Australian family. The University can also arrange temporary accommodation for your arrival and provides a free accommodation service to assist you in your search for off-campus accommodation. My advice
I would definitely recommend Newcastle as a wonderful place to enjoy life while learning in an enriching environment. Taking four courses is a lot of work and that should be taken into consideration if you want good marks from your studies here. Attending orientation is also very important as you receive vital information in that first week and it’s an exciting time to meet new friends. Before you decide on Newcastle make sure you find out all of the best information by talking to past students, current students and the information online. I am sure that you will find that Newcastle is the perfect place for your studies, just as I have.
