Southern Cross University (SCU) is a dynamic Australian university centred on the north coast of New South Wales and southern Gold Coast region of Queensland with campuses located at Tweed Gold Coast, Lismore and Coffs Harbour.

The Graduate College of Management (GCM) coordinates the University’s postgraduate business programs including Master of Business Administration, and the Doctor of Business Administration.

Study on campus

Our postgraduate business courses are delivered by distance education and on campus at Tweed Gold Coast. Students have access to a range of internet and computing services both on and off campus. Students can also connect to the University library to access books, databases and full-text electronic journals, inter-library loans and document supply.

Master of Business Administration

An MBA can enhance your ability to perform in the workplace and provide you with the skills needed to advance your career. Our MBA combines practical business relevance and academic quality with convenience, flexibility, and timeliness. The wide selection of units allows you to tailor your degree to fit your professional goals. Our personalised on-campus program and large distance education program in Australia, attracts students from around the world with over 1700 students currently enrolled in our Masters courses.

Our courses and programs are offered in a number of locations in the Asia-Pacific region, enriching our curriculum development and adding to your study experience. Masters courses are offered on a trimester
basis with intakes in January, May and September. Students can complete their degree over a one year period (three trimesters) or over a 16-month period (four trimesters).

A combined business administration and accounting degree is available and can be completed over two years of full time study (six trimesters).

MBA admission criteria include:

  • Fulfilled all the requirements of a degree or equivalent qualification at this or another acceptable tertiary institution; AND

  • Evidence of at least one year’s relevant professional experience; OR

  • have demonstrated academic or professional standing considered by this University to be equivalent to the above; AND

  • IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band or TOEFL 550 (with no less than 4.5 in the TWE) or Computer based TOEFL 213 (with no less than 4.5 in the Essay Rating).

Doctor of Business Administration

A Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) will challenge and inspire you, while developing expertise in your area of interest and can advance your career and can open doors to further opportunities. Our DBA is consistently rated in the top three Australian Universities for overall satisfaction in research experience*.

If you are an experienced business professional who would like to improve your professional practice and solve practical business problems through research, our DBA is ideal for you. The DBA is a research based management degree that applies sound research methodologies in a practical context. It comprises a significant thesis component that allows you to research an area that is of relevance. These high-level skills and knowledge, together with your management experience can see you become a highly sort after authority in your industry.

We are committed to providing the highest level of academic and liaison support and guide you through every stage of your Professional Doctorate.

Our DBA academic year is based on both trimesters and Enrolment Periods (EP’s), which are for a duration of six months each. Trimester intakes are in January, May and September for coursework masters and research preparatory units, and Enrolment Period’s commencing Jan and July, for the thesis component. The DBA can be completed in 2.5 years / 5 trimesters of on-campus full time study.

DBA admission criteria

Include academic qualifications, management experience, an appropriate DBA research topic and proficiency in English (IELTS of 7.0). In terms of academic qualifications, candidates should hold:

  • a recognised MBA; OR

  • a recognised Masters degree in any discipline; OR

  • an Australian Honours degree in any discipline at upper second level or better; OR

  • a qualification equivalent to an Honours or Masters degree.
