The Melbourne campus has been in operation since 1979, and after recently moving into a state-of-the-art training facility in South Melbourne, the heart of Melbourne’s post-production and creative media industries, is now one of Australia’s largest audio and creative media campuses.

Courses

Audio Engineering/ Music Industry: SAE’s specialist audio engineering/ music industry skills courses guide students through the extensive practical and theoretical; studio, live sound, post-production, and music industry skills required to become a positive contributing member to the world’s illustrious music and creative media industries. Students undertaking these courses learn both the vital technical and creative aspects of the music recording and sound production processes.

Students complete a variety of practical assignments, ranging from; digital editing to sound-for-film post-production, remixing, to full-band production and digital mastering.

Digital Film Making: This course gives students the full experience in all aspects of digital film making; from initial concept through to final production. Students are encouraged to work on their own external projects, as well as, the specified coursework – in order to develop their crucial skills in; directing, editing and other film making processes. The course is extremely ‘hands on’, with a solid practical approach. Typical projects include; the making of a documentary, short film, and a music videos. Students are actively encouraged to regularly network with industry members through entering their work in local and international film festivals and competitions – the institute provides guidance and support to students during this process.

SAE Melbourne’s new South Melbourne campus includes 7 professional recording and mixing studios with 3 adjoining acoustically designed recording spaces. All studios are outfitted with the latest digital and analogue industry-standard recording equipment, including; a 56 channel TL Audio Valve-Technology Console in the main studio; with the rest of the studios configured with the latest, and some classic vintage pieces of equipment, from world-renowned manufacturers, including: Focusrite, Mackie, Yamaha, Digidesign, TC Electronic, Genelec, and more, including a well appointed 5.1 post-production (surround) mixing room.

SAE Melbourne’s Digital Film School boosts a full sound stage, complete with a 5-meter high green screen. Students learn the practical, technological and creative skills required to use a variety of industry-standard cameras and computing equipment.

Located in the heart of the film, television and sound production district, SAE Melbourne’s spectacular new facility covers some 2000 square meters, all dedicated to providing students with one of the largest entertainment technology training facilities Australia has to offer.
