North West Excursion

The North West Excursion will be the highlight for many of you who decide to come to Murdoch. It is a fun-filled bus trip to the rugged North West of Western Australia. It covers close to 4,000 kms, or 2,500 miles, across plains of wild flowers and the vast outcrop that is outback Australia.

Monkey Mia in Shark Bay is one of the highlights of the excursion. Monkey Mia is World Heritage listed and is one of only 12 places in the world to have satisfied all that is required for the honour.

The main attraction here is that the dolphins swim close to the shore to greet you, hoping to be fed. This area is also home to our oldest living ancestors, the Stromatalites (which have evolved over 3-4 billion years) as well as Shell Beach, which is an entire beach made of shells. You will also have the opportunity to snorkel in our most well known marine park, the Ningaloo Reef, which is also a World Heritage site.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of the excursion is Karijini national Park. Hidden amongst Western Australia’s mining towns, this area is untouched and pristine in beauty. The hikes and trails through the gorges are challenging as well as breathtaking, with magnificent scenery, Aboriginal drawings and various species of wildlife. Many have chosen the Murdoch programme after hearing about the North West Excursion…wouldn’t you?
