Murdoch Institute of Technology is purposely located on the Murdoch University campus so students can experience university life while studying in a supportive environment. Its courses provide guaranteed entry into a wide range of Murdoch University Bachelor degree courses at first or second year level.

Murdoch Institute of Technology has a delivery system where three 15 week trimesters operate within a 12 month period.

Students can select one of three commencement dates, February, June or October, choose a study load to suit them, and combine studies at pre-university and university levels when appropriate.

Murdoch University Preparation Course (MUPC)

The MUPC is a foundation course designed with academic staff at Murdoch University, to ensure the best preparation for success in a wide range of Murdoch University degree courses. It is fully accredited by the University, provides entry to all degrees at Murdoch University and is offered in the four streams shown below:

  • Science

  • Commerce

  • Information Technology

  • Mass Communication and Media

Each subject is organised into modules of 9 hours per week and is completed over a 15 week trimester. The course requires completion of 6 subjects and provides entry into a Diploma or the first year of Murdoch University Bachelor degree course. Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) may apply. Students may study either 2 or 3 subjects per trimester to complete the full course in 4, 8 or 12 months.

Diploma Courses

Murdoch Students

Four Diplomas are offered:

  • Diploma of Commerce

  • Diploma of Information Technology

  • Diploma of Mass Communication and Media

  • Diploma of Science (semesters only)

Each Diploma course is equivalent to the first year of university and requires completion of 8 units, including the compulsory Foundation Unit, “Age of Information”. Together the units provide students with a broad and relevant base of knowledge in preparation for university studies, or for employment.

Successful completion provides a guaranteed place in second year of a Bachelor degree course at Murdoch University. An extra hour per week of workshop tuition is provided for each unit.

Advanced Diploma

In Trimester 3, commencing in October, students study 3 second year specialist Management units. With “Principles of Management” studied as part of a Diploma these combine to provide a Minor in any Bachelor degree.

Courses at Murdoch Institute of Technology are for:

  • Australian and International students who have completed Year 11 in Australia, or an equivalent level in another country.

  • Australian and International students who have completed Year 12 in Australia or an equivalent level in another country, and wish to upgrade their Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) score to gain entry to the course of their choice.

  • International students who are required to complete a Foundation or Diploma course before gaining entry to university.

  • Australian and International Mature Age students who do not have the required university entry qualifications.
