Monash University - Faculty of Information Technology - Student Profile - Ying Li

Name: Ying Li
Country of Origin: China
Student Program: Master of Network Computing - first year 2006
“My bachelor degree was in Electronic engineering, but I found I had more interest and enthusiasm for IT. Postgraduate study gave me the opportunity to shift my focus to IT. After a year of studying I think my choice was right!
“Monash attracts IT students from overseas because the course choices are varied and IT at Monash ranks highly amongst universities in Australia. The facilities are excellent, the practical work is useful, and the unit leaders are knowledgeable. I would recommend studying in Melbourne! It’s an amazing city, with a mixture of historical and modern aspects. Also, it is the cultural centre of Australia!
"My course is mainly focused on the kinds of computing technology which are based on networks in an information society. The recommended reading materials are recently published books, articles and journals, so I know the course has relevance to the current industry climate. The topics of lectures and practical works are what is “hot’ on the Internet. Most importantly, the course meets the requirements outlined in advertisements by IT employers. As well as specialist techniques and skills, employers are looking for excellent communication that you can demonstrate with others. The course provides that.”
