Arts at Monash

Monash University is a member of the prestigious ‘Group of Eight’ representing Australia’s leading universities, recognised for excellence in higher education and research. The most recent survey by the Times Higher Education Supplement (2006) ranked Monash at 38 in the world.
The Arts Faculty is one of the largest in Australia. There are currently over 8,000 students studying at our Victorian or overseas campuses and we offer an exceptional range of courses and disciplines.
Our purpose is the pursuit, advancement and application of knowledge in the humanities, social and environmental sciences and creative and performing arts. We are committed to developing students who are critical and creative thinkers, skilled researchers and excellent communicators.
An International Commitment
Monash Arts operates on four Australian campuses, and in Malaysia and South Africa. We also run courses and activities through our centres in Prato (Italy) and London.
Our courses are developed with an international perspective, preparing students for careers throughout the world.
Study abroad and Exchange
There is no better way to understand another culture than by living and studying in that country. Monash Arts encourages students to take advantage of our extensive study abroad and exchange opportunities. Students may apply to study overseas after successfully completing one year of an undergraduate degree or during postgraduate study. Monash is proud of its international connections, we enjoy partnerships and affiliations with over 100 universities throughout the world. Credit is given for units studied and financial assistance may be available.
Flexible Study Options

A key benefit of an Arts degree is its flexibility. Monash Arts lets you structure your degree to suit your needs. Options include:

Specialist degrees including journalism, languages, criminology, Bachelor of Arts (Global).

Double degrees with another faculty

Two majors – either both from Arts or one from another faculty.

Diplomas - these courses are one year full-time and are effectively the equivalent of a major. Choose from over 55 disciplines

Off campus study

Postgraduate studies available by coursework, research or a combination of both
Undergraduate Study
The Bachelor of Arts is a three-year flexible degree that allows you to choose from over fifty areas of study in the humanities, performing arts, languages and social sciences. Within each area of study there are electives so you can design your degree to be as broad or specific as you like. There are a number of pathways to the degree including – completion of Year 12 in Australia or international equivalent; mature age with VCE or Open Learning; Diploma from Monash College or TAFE; Diploma of Tertiary Studies.
Postgraduate Study
Our postgraduate programs are innovative, challenging and relevant to the global workplace. We pride ourselves on being flexible enough to meet an exceptionally wide range of needs - courses can be highly specialised or take a broader interdisciplinary approach. Many of our academic staff are leaders in their fields with international research profiles and industry connections. We offer a challenging, stimulating and supportive graduate studies community, and provide academic and non-academic services and programs to enhance your experience.
