A school of the Uniting Church, MLC is a day and boarding school for girls from Prep to Year 12, with a specially designed learning centre – MLC Kindle – for girls and boys from six weeks to five years.
Care and support
Care of our students is a priority at MLC, and underpins all teaching and learning programs. There is a wide support network for international students that includes support from a dedicated International Student Co-ordinator, teaching and counselling staff, and language support through English as a Second Language classes. MLC also has an International Students’ Committee to support international students and promote internationalism across the College.
Curriculum
MLC offers one of the broadest curricula in Australia. In Years 11 and 12, students choose between three distinct learning pathways – the International Baccalaureate (IB), VCE and VCEVET (Vocational Education and Training), to create a course which matches their interests and goals. Over 80 different subjects are offered from sciences, maths, humanities, languages, arts, music, drama and technology to VET subjects such as hospitality, multimedia, music industry skills, information technology and fitness and community recreation.
Excellent results
MLC achieves world best academic performance. In 2006 MLC had a triple victory: two IB students achieved a perfect 45 point diploma and one VCE student achieved the highest possible ENTER of 99.95. In 2006 42.5% of Year 12 students received an ENTER above 90 with 12.3% over 99.
Co-curricular opportunities

Individuals flourish with an enormous range of co-curricular activities. Clubs include drama, chess and Eco-care. There are many opportunities for music tuition, bands, orchestras, choirs and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, as well as indigenous and community initiatives.
More than 30 sports are offered at MLC including netball, gymnastics, basketball, rowing, tennis, kayaking, snow sports and swimming. Participation is the aim, with opportunities for inter-house, inter-school, interstate and elite competitions.
Residential living at MLC
Surrounded by traditional leafy gardens, MLC’s boarding experience at Tiddeman House provides a happy home for nearly 100 students from Australia and around the world. A global village, it is a place where respect, care and understanding are paramount, fulfilling the role of the boarder’s extended family. Tiddeman House is a safe, caring home away from home for Year 7 to 12 students combining tradition with modern facilities and technology.
To make residential living as much like home as possible, each year level has its own common room equipped with comfortable furniture, TV, video/DVD, fridge and microwave. The boarding house has a wireless network, so students can use technology, anywhere, anytime.
Education outdoors
From MLC’s ‘classroom on the lake’ at MLC Banksia to its world-renowned residential MLC Marshmead campus, MLC’s Education Outdoor programs aim to develop independence and life skills.
Facilities
MLC provides a wonderful learning environment. Specialist buildings include a state-of-the-art Junior School, a well equipped Physical Education Centre and Music School, and an extensive library and research facility, which incorporates a high-tech multi-media centre.
