Melbourne Language Centre was established in 1988 and has a proud reputation for being Australia’s premier High School Preparation Centre. For adult students, we also specialise in English for Academic Purposes, IELTS Test Preparation, Working Holiday English, OET Preparation and English for Health Professionals.

Our three modern campuses are located in each of the main student areas of Melbourne including City Centre, Carlton and Box Hill. Because of our large size, we are able to offer English language courses from beginner to advanced levels. Immediately upon arrival, our students are introduced to an orientation program for transition to life in Australia. The teaching staff at MLC have the highest professional qualifications and are very experienced with the needs of international students. Through our MLC Homestay Program and affiliated company, Guardianship Australia, we can provide 24 hours on-call “Care Team” assistance, which includes emergency first aid treatment and first language counselling.

The High School Preparation Programme is offered at our central campus in Carlton and at Box Hill, one of Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. Courses can be arranged from two weeks to forty-eight weeks. Some students enrol in short courses during their own school vacation period, but most enter a longer programme which is specifically designed to prepare them for secondary schooling in Victoria. It is possible to start a programme at any time of the year.

The High School Preparation Course is specifically tailored for the needs of students who will attend secondary schools in Australia. Language skills are taught with concentration on the subject areas students will study in Secondary education including mathematics, the sciences, and Information Technology. The culture of the school prepares students for a successful transition to Secondary education and includes uniforms, attendance monitoring, discipline, sport, excursions, homework, research and study skills. Reports are produced regularly and we liase with the student’s pathway school to ensure the transition to a new country and culture is successful.

Our adult campus is situated in the heart of Melbourne, less than a 2 minute walk from Flinders Street Station. We offer weekly intakes for General English and EAP students and regular intakes for OET and Health Professional courses.

English for Academic Purposes is specifically designed to prepare international students for their continuing tertiary education, at Certificate, Diploma, Foundation Studies, Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. Through its preparatory General English programs and the more advanced English for Academic Purposes, MLC combines excellence in language teaching with a thorough preparation in the specific skills needed for successful tertiary studies. It is also a pathway into University.

We also provide our English for Health Professionals program (OET Preparation). The English for Health Professionals program (EHP) within General English provides students with a thorough knowledge of English in a medical context. Students study all the essential elements of the English Language, but they do so in a way that pays specific attention to the kind of English needed by Health Professionals.
