Three Reasons to Study English at Macquarie University:

1. A Fantastic Location

NCELTR is located on Macquarie University’s beautiful parkland campus that is only a short bus ride away from Sydney’s city centre. Macquarie University is well-known among local and international students as one of Australia’s leading universities, with a peaceful, spacious campus and great student services and facilities.

NCELTR students have access to their own well equipped interactive English language library, one of the best of its kind in Australia. The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) provides students with a wide range of language learning materials and offers free English conversation classes, providing students with the opportunity to practice their spoken English in an informal setting.

2. The Highest Quality

NCELTR is widely recognised as a national and international leader in the field of English language teaching and research. The teaching staff have postgraduate qualifications (Master degree or PhD) and extensive experience teaching English in Australia and overseas. Over 35% of the teachers are qualified and practising IELTS examiners.

NCELTR's discipline-specific Direct Entry programs allow students to satisfy the English language requirements for entry into a Macquarie University degree, while learning English language skills specific to their intended field of study. These programs have been developed in close collaboration with academics and they are being continually assessed and revised in line with NCELTR’s ongoing research. Internal research demonstrates that NCELTR students have a success rate at university at least as high as that of local (native English speaking) students.

NCELTR hosts regular social events such as sightseeing excursions, beach outings, football competitions, movie screenings and student parties, and there are plenty of University sporting associations and special interest clubs on campus where you can meet other international and local Australian students.

The teaching staff are friendly and helpful, and will provide you with individual attention and specific feedback throughout your English course. Special care and support is always available to ensure that students are happy and comfortable. NCELTR’s Academic Advisors will be able to answer any questions you have about your course or study pathway, and the trained counsellors on campus will assist you with any personal problems or concerns.
