Areas of studyEstablished in 1964, Macquarie is distinguished by the range and quality of its course offerings. The University’s Master of Applied Finance program, for example, remains the biggest program of its type in the world and the Master of Business Administration program has been ranked as one of the finest in the Asia-Pacific region. Campus location and facilitiesMacquarie is a thriving community of over 30,000 students – including 8,800 international students, and is located on 135 hectares of parkland, 30 minutes drive northwest of Sydney’s harbour and central business district. The modern, well-equipped campus is home to a new Sport and Aquatic Centre, several museums, two hotels and a golf driving range, has wireless hot spots across campus, and is adjacent to a large shopping centre and transport hub. Quality student accommodation is available both on and off-campus. The University is also part of Australia’s premier high-technology precinct and is surrounded by the local headquarters of numerous multinational corporations. Senior executives from companies such as Nortel Networks are members of Macquarie’s teaching staff and students also have the opportunity to undertake internships with these companies. Successful graduatesWith the high calibre of its courses and teaching staff, it is not surprising that Macquarie’s graduates are highly sought after their starting salaries have been the highest in Australia for more than a decade, as ranked by The Good Universities Guide (1998-2008). An international experienceIn addition to having a high proportion of international students (almost 30% in 2008) almost half the student population was born overseas. Macquarie University has partnerships with over 250 institutions in 60 countries worldwide. The University offers Australia’s most generous travel grant scheme to support students studying with partner universities on exchange, volunteering overseas or participating in Macquarie’s unique Global Leadership Program. Student servicesMacquarie has a dedicated International Student Services team, who can help with almost any enquiry – accommodation, health cover, fees, social activities, study skills workshops, and personal welfare. International Student Services provide a comprehensive orientation program for all international students at the beginning of each semester, and organise social events throughout the year. |
