Ivanhoe Grammar School

Ivanhoe Grammar School has a long history of educating international students, having enrolled students from Malaysia in the 1940s. Currently, approximately 110 international students are enrolled, mostly from South-East and North Asia.
The School is a day school and enrols both girls and boys. It is endorsed to enrol international students from Preparatory to Year 12.
Buckley House in Ivanhoe enrols children from Kindergarten to Year 6, The Ridgeway Secondary Campus, also in Ivanhoe, enrols students for the secondary years, and Plenty Campus in Mernda enrols students from Preparatory to Year 12.
Ivanhoe values the richness of its population, which reflects the multicultural nature of contemporary Australian society.
The School is located close to Melbourne and is conveniently placed near public transport, banking and shopping facilities.
Arriving at Ivanhoe
Most international students come direct to Ivanhoe Grammar School from overseas. This enables them to become full members of the Ivanhoe community from arrival, and they are immediately in the care of experienced Ivanhoe staff.
English Language Programs
The School is accredited by NEAS to provide ELICOS (Intensive English) programs, and has its own on-campus ELICOS Centre. The Centre is staffed by specialist teachers and provides intensive English instruction at beginner and intermediate levels for newly arrived students. Students are gradually integrated into the life of the School. Once students progress to mainstream classes they study ESL (English as a Second Language) as a subject, and are also supported in other subjects by our highly experienced ESL staff.

Accommodation and Guardianship
The School has an extensive and well-supported homestay network providing accommodation for our international students. Homestays are expected to provide full board, and a well ordered home life with appropriate levels of care and supervision. Senior school personnel visit homestays regularly.
The School requires each international student to have a guardian who will take a parental interest in the student. If families do not have a suitable person in Melbourne to undertake this role, the School will take on guardianship responsibilities, and will liaise directly with parents.
International Baccalaureate
Ivanhoe Grammar School offers the International Baccalaureate at The Ridgeway Secondary Campus. It is offered in addition to the Victorian Certificate of Education in order to further enhance options and opportunities for our able students. Within the IB and the VCE, students are able to study Mandarin Chinese as their first language, and English as the second.
Ivanhoe Grammar School
Since its establishment in 1915, Ivanhoe Grammar School has built a proud reputation as a leading Australian Independent School. It has provided many thousands of students with academic opportunities, life skills and the competitive edge to gain university placement and employment. The School has an excellent academic reputation, and has achieved a pass rate of almost 100% at Year 12 over the last several years, with above 90% of students proceeding to University and other post-secondary studies.
Our international students have shown again and again that they find Ivanhoe a school where they feel comfortable and where they are able to adapt to their new environment and make the very best use of their potential and talents.
The School is a member of The University of Melbourne Schools Partnership International. Each year approximately half of our international students secure places at The University of Melbourne.
