International Grammar School (IGS) is a co-educational school from Preschool to Year 12. The school’s ethical framework is grounded in the core values of acceptance of difference, individual and social responsibility and respect for self and others. The school is secular, and inclusive of people from all backgrounds. IGS is a small caring school with a strong academic focus and commitment to excellence, and achieves an extremely high standard of education.
IGS offers the HSC and follows the New South Wales Board of Studies Curriculum. All subjects for the HSC are offered at Extension 1 and 2 levels. The school places a strong emphasis on Language and Music, and every child learns a language other than English until the end of Year 10.
IGS is an inner-city school, located in the educational precinct of Sydney between Sydney University, University of Technology and Sydney Institute of Technology, and close to the Broadway Shopping Centre. Bus and rail links to all parts of Sydney are available nearby.
The school is located in a modern, purpose-built warehouse conversion. The campus offers science laboratories, language rooms, libraries, computer workshops, design and technology rooms, a hall/gym, rooftop garden and basketball court, music rooms, visual arts rooms, drama and music performance spaces, and a senior study area.
High School welfare is based around small, ‘vertical’ tutor groups which meet daily. Classes and year groups are kept to a small size that encourages a sense of individual worth. The school has a professional counsellor, and close liaison with parents/guardians is maintained and encouraged
