Deakin University - Study Abroad

Deakin’s Study Abroad experience

Deakin University

Deakin University's Study Abroad program offers international students a unique opportunity to explore a new culture and experience all that Australia has to offer, while earning credit towards their degrees back home.

With more than 70 study areas across a wide range of disciplines to choose from, Study Abroad students are enrolled as regular Deakin students and complete units of study alongside Australian students.

Most units have a weighting of one credit point. Study Abroad students must enrol in a full-time load of 3-4 credit points. Four Deakin credits are equal to 30 ECTS credits. For ease of credit transfer, an official Deakin academic transcript will be issued upon the completion of your Study Abroad experience.

Our Study Abroad programs also include opportunities for internships with Australian companies where students can gain valuable work experience, as well as a Beach Orientation trip that introduces students to unique aspects of Australian life and culture.

Student Profile

Student Julia Brockhausen

Julia Brockhausen, Germany

Melbourne is the perfect city to have a good time - big city flair, beautiful places and lots to do. Don't miss St. Kilda and the Bell Shakespeare Company; they were my personal Melbourne highlights in addition to a good footy game with crazy Australians who run into each other and a wild crowd that drinks lots of beer and shouts the most obscene curses at the players. But it's fun - really!

The first time I saw Bells Beach and all the other perfect surf beaches near Geelong, I thought to myself, “Ah, this is how paradise looks.” If you are a surfer or you want to learn surfing there is almost no better place to go to than Bells Beach. As soon as I started to get to know the surfers around the area, they took me on their surfing trips. And the best thing about it was I also made lots of new friends whom I'm still in touch with and who made my time in Geelong unforgettable.
