More information about Victorian Government Schools Add
The Victorian Government is committed to giving all students, irrespective of the school they attend, access to a high-quality education and a genuine opportunity to succeed. Victorian government schools promote a high level of international awareness to prepare students to engage and thrive in a globalised world.
Victoria is the most multicultural state in Australia and home to people from over 200 different countries who speak over 230 different languages and dialects. In fact, one in four Victorians was born outside Australia. As such, international students are warmly welcomed and valued at our schools where they are well-supported to achieve their academic goals and strongly supported as part of the school and local community.
A quality pathway to higher education
Quality is the number one reason why international students and their families select Victorian government schools as their destination of choice. Along with our leading education system and English language facilities, Victoria, and Melbourne in particular, are home to some of Australia's world-class universities. It is these combined intellectual assets which have built Victoria's reputation as a global centre of excellence in education.
Melbourne, Victoria, is currently the 'World's Most Liveable city' and consistently outranks other world cities in the Global Liveability Survey.

Dedicated international student support
The welfare of international students is important at Victorian government schools. Each secondary school has an International Student Coordinator to meet the individual needs of international students. The International Student Coordinator will be there to provide students with 24-hour support from the time of arrival at Melbourne airport right up until the final day at secondary school.
Live with an Australian family
Arriving in a foreign country can make for challenges with settling in and learning a new language. For a young person away from their own family, a homestay family is the ideal way to ensure students feel that they belong, experience how the locals live and accelerate English language learning. Many international students find that their homestay is the defining experience of their time in Victoria.
An internationally recognised school qualification
The Victorian school education system is characterised by vibrant and dynamic learning environments, innovative teaching practices, a diverse curriculum and an internationally-recognised qualification - the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). The VCE is a comprehensive senior high school program, with a broad choice of subjects, that provides entry to all Australian universities and many universities outside Australia.
English language programs
Victorian government schools help international students to learn English quickly. On arrival, students may attend an Intensive English Language Program before they move into mainstream classes. The personalised English language tuition offered in Victoria plays a critical role in helping international students achieve the required English language skills to successfully complete their high school studies.
