The Kilmore International School (TKIS) is an independent, non-denominational, co-educational boarding and day school for academically motivated students. Classes are offered from Years 5 to 12 with boarding available from Year 7. In Years 11 and 12 all students undertake the full Diploma of the International Baccalaureate (IB), an internationally recognised alternative university entrance qualification accepted for entry to leading institutions around the world.
About Us
We are the only school in Australia totally committed to the IB. We do not offer the Victorian Certificate of Education (Victoria), Higher School Certificate (New South Wales), or other limited value local or overseas programs.
Student Services
Facilities
The School has around 450 students and offers: highly qualified academic staff (30 of whom are IB examiners), small class sizes, intensive evening tutorials, ESL support, careers advice (university placement, SAT preparation and testing and Oxford and Cambridge testing) and a safe boarding environment. An all inclusive fee covers tuition, tutorials, accommodation, all meals, laundry, books, texts, uniforms and excursions. The School provides the opportunity to succeed in a challenging and stimulating environment alongside motivated students from all over the world.
Courses
Curriculum
Years 5 to 8 is designed to be comprehensive and stimulating. The Year 9 and 10 preparatory years, during which specific subjects may be given special attention, prepares students for the two year IB course. There is no need for international students to undertake an ELICOS or preparatory English course prior to commencing at Kilmore. The School also offers many languages to both non-native and native speaker levels including English, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian, Thai, Hindi, Malay, Korean, French and German. All IB Diploma candidates are required to engage in the study of Languages, Sciences, Mathematics and Humanities.
Academic achievement
The Kilmore International School's focus is on academic achievement. Established in 1990, the school is proud to say that 100% of our graduates have routinely obtained offers from universities of their choice. Graduates are now studying at or have completed degrees at the worlds leading tertiary institutions including Yale and MIT in the United States, Oxford, Cambridge, LSE and Imperial College in the United Kingdom and Australia's top Universities such as ANU, UNSW, The University of Sydney and The University of Melbourne.
TKIS Class of 2009 have continued in the tradition of achieving outstanding outcomes in the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Our average IB score for 2009 was 34, translating into an average ENTER score of 92.90%. These results placed approximately ten percent of our graduating class in the top 1% and 40% within the top 5% of all Australian students. 2009 graduate Matthew Lee from South Korea achieved an IB score of 44 points (out of a possible 45) and is now deciding whether to attend university in Australia, the UK, the USA or back home. Sherry Li from China achieved an IB score of 43 points and will be heading off to Cambridge University this September to study Engineering. Other 2009 graduates have now joined earlier Kilmore graduates at The University of Melbourne, UNSW, The University of Sydney, ANU and other prestigious institutions throughout Australia. Once again in 2009, all Kilmore students were successful in receiving university places usually for the most demanding programs and often for double degrees.
The Kilmore International School is extremely proud of its graduate outcomes. Having sent students to top universities throughout the world including Australia, UK, USA, Canada, Switzerland, Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Korea and New Zealand for many years, and seen them go on to gain highly paid employment in prestigious and demanding professions all over the world, we have ample reason to believe in the strength of the IB program and the opportunities it provides for motivated students.
Locations
- Kilmore is located only 58 kilometres North of Melbourne and is well serviced by bus and train. It is ideally situated for access to most of Victoria's major attractions and is particularly suitable as an educational centre because it does not suffer the social problems that plague larger cities. Students undertake their studies in a peaceful, country environment under well supervised conditions. Recreational facilities including horse-riding, golf, swimming, tennis, soccer and gymnasium are well provided for on campus or close to the school. The school has appropriate State and Federal Government approvals in Australia and is a member school of the International Baccalaureate Organisation whose head office is in Geneva, Switzerland.
