About Us
Swinburne has five campuses in the inner and eastern suburbs of Melbourne and one in Sarawak, Malaysia. With a reputation for quality education and focused research, Swinburne attracts highly qualified academics and educational leaders. The university was awarded five-star ratings for 'Teaching Quality', 'Staff Qualifications' and 'Graduate Satisfaction' by The Good Universities Guide 2011. At Swinburne, we help our students to become self-sufficient, resourceful and employable by providing a challenging and supportive educational environment.
Swinburne is ranked in the top 500 universities in the world in the prestigious Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Ranking of World Universities. We are also the only Australian university invited to be a member of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU), which aims to foster student and staff mobility and give students a competitive edge in today's global employment market. Focused and selective, our research underpins and invigorates all our activities and ensures the university contributes to and influences the advancement of the fields in which it is engaged. Swinburne has particular research strengths in business, design, engineering, information and communication technologies, life and health sciences, physical and chemical sciences, and social sciences.
A truly international institution, Swinburne has developed partner relationships with more than 80 universities around the world and has been teaching at its Sarawak campus in Malaysia for more than ten years. We encourage our students to undertake an international learning experience as part of their course.
Student Services
Swinburne has channelled significant investment into major refurbishments and new infrastructure at all of our campuses. The development of new buildings, renovation of existing buildings and landscaping have enhanced the study environment and educational experience we offer our students. Cutting-edge new buildings include a student services building and the AUD$140 million Advanced Technologies Centre at the Hawthorn campus. We offer supportive, secure and peaceful environments with state-of-the-art multimedia lecture theatres, many brandnew buildings, well-stocked libraries, up-todate computer labs and wi-fi connectivity - as well as on-campus accommodation at Hawthorn and Lilydale - so our students get the most out of their studies.
