About Us
La Trobe University was established in 1964 to make a difference - specifically 'to promote critical enquiry within the University and in the general community' and 'to aid by research and other means the advancement of knowledge and the pursuit of the benefits of its practical application'. Over more than four decades the staff, students and alumni of the University have succeeded in making a real difference to people's lives through research, education and innovation across many areas of scientific, social, cultural and political endeavour.

Francis Ansah, Ghana
PhD in Education
For Francis Ansah, the decision to enrol at La Trobe's Bendigo campus was made on the strength of a friend's recommendation. And his friend's advice has not let him down. Since arriving at La Trobe's Bendigo campus in 2010, Francis has also been mightily impressed with what he has experienced. "The support from the staff at the International Office has been great, and the Bendigo campus is so serene," says Francis. Undertaking his PhD in Education, Francis is researching issues surrounding quality assurance in higher education. "My course is opening me up to understand what quality higher education means and how continuous improvement in higher education can be achieved," says Francis. In addition to enjoying life at La Trobe Bendigo, Francis speaks highly of the laid-back nature of Australian life. "I have so far enjoyed my experience in Australia because it is an open society and most people are friendly and supportive. I have studied in Europe as well but La Trobe Bendigo is the best place I have studied at. I hope I get the opportunity to send my children here in the future," says Francis.
