Holmesglen's Language Centre is committed to providing students with top-quality education and training. Recognised internationally as a provider of English language training, the Language Centre offers intensive English language courses accredited by the Australian Government.
About Us
Students in the Language Centre are made up of many nationalities. This allows our students not only to experience Australia's exciting multiculturalism, but also to make friends with people from every part of the world. Students enjoy small classes under the guidance of well-qualified and highly experienced language teachers. The institute has modern facilities and an up-to-date, communicative approach to English teaching. Students studying English language programs have access to a modern and well-equipped Independent Learning Centre. Students studying certificates, diplomas and degrees at Holmesglen continue to receive English language support through the Language Centre.
Courses
General English
- certificates I-III in spoken and written English
- certificate III in English as a second language (access or further study).
These programs provide English language skills to students from non-English speaking backgrounds from beginner to advanced levels. The courses provide practice in listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as help with grammar and pronunciation.
Business English
- English for work (office).
This 20-week advanced-level English course provides students with the language skills required in an office environment. It would be suitable for students intending to study or work in the fields of office administration, business, accounting, tourism or international business.
Academic English and study skills programs:
Study skills
Study skills programs are offered at the intermediate and advanced level. These intensive programs commence in early January and late May every year. Each program is 24 hours per week and is designed for students preparing for further study in Australia. English for academic purposes (EAP) This 20-week advanced-level course provides students with the language, crosscultural communication and study skills needed to undertake vocational or higher education in Australia. English for specific purposes Holmesglen also offers the following one-semester (20-week) advanced-level English courses, which focus on developing students' English language skills in different professional work environments in Australia. All courses include a period of industry placement and commence in January and July each year.
English for accountants
This course has been designed for overseastrained accountants and focuses on developing students' technical English and communication skills for work in the field of accounting. English for business professionals This course has been designed for overseastrained business professionals, and focuses on developing students' workplace English communication skills for work in the business environment.
English for engineers
This course is for overseas-trained engineers and focuses on developing students' technical English, communication, computer and jobseeking skills. English for health professionals. This course is for overseas-trained health professionals, including doctors, nurses, dentists, veterinary scientists, physiotherapists and pharmacists, who wish to prepare for the Occupational English Test (OET) exam. The course focuses on developing the English language skills required to communicate in the healthcare work environment.
English for teachers
This course is primarily designed for overseas-qualified and experienced primary and secondary teachers and provides students with knowledge of current teaching practicum methods in Australia, including lesson delivery methods and class management issues.
