ELTHAM College is a fully independent, coeducational school, which enrols approximately 1100 students ranging from the Early Learning Centre to Year 12. The college has an outstanding academic record and is recognised as an Australian education leader. We are committed to releasing and enhancing the talents of individuals in an environment of care.
About Us
Our priorities are to ensure that all students achieve their academic and personal potential and graduate from ELTHAM with the skills to succeed at university and in the wider world.
With the support of our dedicated staff, students become multi-skilled, self-directed individuals motivated for lifelong learning and success.
The college is located in the safe and accessible outer Melbourne suburb of Research. Just a short drive from Templestowe and Doncaster, the district is renowned for its natural bush setting. The vibrant city centre is easily reached by a direct train journey of 45 minutes.
The main campus at Research comprises over 40 hectares with excellent academic and sporting facilities. The college also has a Year 9 city campus located in the central business district of Melbourne. Apart from the academic program, the college provides many extracurricular activities including sports, debating, music, and outdoor activities. International study tours are available, as well as a Year 11 trip to Central Australia.
Student Services
Student support
ELTHAM has experienced professionals who care for your child and monitor their academic progress. The Director of International Students is involved in all aspects of welfare. She guides each student's academic and personal progress and keeps in regular contact with parents and guardians. The Director works with mentors, career counsellors, administrators, a first aid medical officer, a student counsellor and senior staff to form a team devoted to the care and support of students.
The International Student's Committee provides additional support and help, and organises social activities such as barbecues, international student's dinners and excursions throughout Victoria.
Accommodation
International students under the age of 18 enrolled at ELTHAM are normally required to live with a homestay family. The homestay experience helps students to adjust to the Australian lifestyle with suitable supervision.
The college has a sound network of homestay families, regulated by college staff. Homestay families are day-to-day carers for the students. The college homestay officer meets regularly with the families and all arrangements are closely monitored.
The Senior School
Designed to accommodate the unique needs of the young adult students, our senior school environment and teaching programs ensure a successful transition to university and college study. The senior students work in an open-plan environment which includes a cafe, lounge, courtyards and a large, modern careers room. All senior students have excellent computer access.
Courses
Academic program
ELTHAM offers senior students a three-year period to complete the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), which provides entry to all Australian universities. Students in Year 10, 11 and 12 explore a comprehensive range of academic subjects, complemented by advanced university placement courses and Vocational Education and Training (VET) Programs.
Students can customise their Senior School course to suit their own aspirations, abilities and future university pathway. VCE units are studied in teacher-led small groups, tutorials, field trips and self-directed study.
ELICOS Centre
The college has an established ELICOS Centre at the main Research campus. The courses offered are intended to equip students with the necessary English language skills to succeed at school, university and future employment. All ELICOS courses are led by qualified and experienced ESL teachers.
Teachers will modify the courses and examination requirements as necessary for international students.
Academic outcomes
In 2008, in another outstanding achievement, all of ELTHAM's international graduates gained a tertiary placement, with 77% of them securing a place at one of their first three preferences.
