The Centre for Macquarie English (CME) is the English language centre of Macquarie University, located in the centre of Macquarie University's beautiful and spacious campus in North Ryde in Sydney, Australia.
About Us
CME has been one of the world's premier English language teaching centers for over 20 years. CME was founded by the Australian Government in 1989 as a Centre of Excellence for English language teaching and research. We are still one of Australia's largest and one of the most prestigious centers' in the industry.
Today, well over 3,000 CME students from over 50 countries, graduate every year with the greatest prospects of success in their studies, life overseas and career.
CME offers a wide range of English programs including discipline-specific university entry preparation into Macquarie University and SIBT, General English, study tours and professional courses.
CME has over 80 CME teachers - all with postgraduate qualifications in teaching English; over 20 are qualified IELTS examiners.

Student Services
Student support services
Students at CME get the individual support they need, with only 14 to 18 students in each class. The teaching staff are highly qualified, skilled, friendly and helpful, and will provide you with individual attention and specific feedback throughout your English course.
Special care and support is always available to ensure that students are happy and comfortable. CME's Academic Advisors will be able to answer any questions you have about your course or study pathway. There are also trained counsellors on campus who you will be able to speak to if you have a personal problem or concern.
CME has teachers or support services staff members who speak most of the languages of our students.
Student social events and activities
CME hosts regular social events such as sightseeing excursions, beach outings, football competitions, movie screenings and student parties. There are plenty of University sporting associations and special interest clubs on campus where you can meet other international and local Australian students.

Independent Learning Centre
CME students have access to their own well equipped interactive English language library, one of the best of its kind in Australia.
The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) provides students with a wide range of language learning materials including books, magazines, newspapers, software, audio and video cassettes, CD's, DVD's and a growing range of linked web-based language sites.
There are free English conversation classes available, providing students with the opportunity to practise their spoken English in a supportive, informal setting, enhancing their speaking skills and increasing their confidence in conversational English.
Macquarie University campus
CME is located at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. The campus is in North Ryde, a suburb of Sydney approximately 14km from the city centre. It is spread over 135 hectares of green bushland with landscaped gardens, beautiful Australian wildlife and modern buildings. The campus has its own lake, native fauna park and a number of history and art museums. There is a large, well-equipped library, a modern sports and aquatic centre (with two swimming pools, badminton, basketball, squash and tennis courts, a newly renovated gym), medical and counseling services, a pharmacy, post office, banks, food court, cafes and a bar. Macquarie University is home to 30,000 students, including 8,500 international students from all over the world. It is only 20 minutes by train to the centre of Sydney from the Macquarie University train station and there are many buses to other areas of Sydney.
Nearby attractions
Macquarie Shopping Centre, one of Sydney's largest and most modern shopping centres, is just five minutes walk from the CME building. It has five major department stores along with a 16-screen Greater Union cinema complex and 230 specialty shops. CME students can easily access the supermarkets, banks, post office, medical centre, restaurants, cafes and ice skating rink located just across the road at the shopping centre. There are also plenty of opportunities for students to find part time work there.
