More information about Caulfield Grammar School Add

Since 1881, Caulfield Grammar School has been shaping the future of young women and men by providing education of renowned excellence. It is recognised as one of Australia's most influential independent, coeducational day and boarding schools.

About Us

Caulfield Grammar School is a school with a true international perspective. The school's own international campus in China, its custom of reaching out to best-practice schools from around the world to share ideas and, importantly, the understanding of the valuable exchange that occurs through inviting international students to study at Caulfield Grammar are examples of this. It encourages cultural diversity and internationalism, and has for many years allocated places to girls and boys from overseas.

As one school with five campuses, Caulfield Grammar offers a broader range of learning experiences and resources than is available at most schools. The shared expertise of a large group of specialist staff, top-quality facilities and the support of a large community network are clear advantages for students.

Caulfield Grammar has links with Melbourne's major universities, providing students with the opportunity to undertake first-year university subjects whilst still attending secondary school. Students at Caulfield have a history of strong academic results in the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) - Victoria's internationally recognised senior school certificate.

Student Services

Girls and boys can board at the school's Caulfield Campus, where accommodation is provided for approximately 100 students from Australia and overseas. The head of boarding, the deputy head of boarding, their families and residential staff ensure that boarders are helped to feel secure in a supportive and caring environment.

Caulfield Grammar School is one of very few schools in metropolitan Melbourne (and the only member of the Victorian Association of Public Schools) to offer boarding facilities to both girls and boys - sisters and brothers. Families may also wish to consider homestay arrangements as an alternative to boarding.

Courses

Professional development/specialist teachers and coaches

Specialist teachers and coaches operate in all areas of the learning program. Teachers are supported by the school's own strategic and focused weekly professional development sessions - an approach to deliver quality teaching and therefore quality learning for all students.

VCE from Year 10

Year 10 students at Caulfield Grammar are able to include in their course of study VCE units suited to their interests and abilities. This means in effect that the VCE is spread over three years rather than two, enabling students to best tailor their learning for these three critical senior years.

Learning journeys

At Year 9 a range of holistic, active, experiential programs are designed to engage students with real-world learning experiences. Problem-based learning experiences are created to suit students' development. It is learning by doing and applies skills and concepts learnt in core subjects to real personal and societal challenges.

Internationalism

Year 9 students are offered the amazing opportunity of living and learning in another country for five weeks, based at the schools Nanjing Campus in China. Internationalism recognises that Caulfield's students are members of a growing global community. Our belief is that the most effective means of preparing students for this challenge is through the intensive study of another culture.

Earth Studies

Historically Yarra Junction Campus (or YJ, as it is affectionately known) has always been the site for education outdoors, adventure activities and farm studies (the campus includes a commercial dairy farm), but in more recent times the campus has also become an exemplar of sustainable living. The Earth Studies Centre and the students' eco-cabins are powered by renewable resources-and learning activities explore students' impact on their environment.

Learning Mentors

Caulfield Grammar School has introduced an extra teacher to every Year 7 and Year 8 class. Each girl and boy now has a learning mentor who closely monitors and supports them in their academic and social development. That means two qualified teachers in core classes - a subject specialist and a learning mentor.
