Iwan Faddilah Kartaatmaja, Indonesia
Master of Public Policy and Management
29 year-old Indonesian Masters of Public Policy and Management (MSPPM) student Iwan Faddilah Kartaatmaja understands the transformative power of an international education at Carnegie Mellon University, Heinz College Australia. Iwan grew up in the town of Bandung 2.5 hours outside of Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta before studying economics at the University of Padjadjaran and working as an auditor, and then compliance reviewer in Jakarta. Iwan says the knowledge that well-crafted public policy can lead to positive change was his inspiration for studying the public policy program at Carnegie Mellon University. 'Indonesia is still on the way to change through economic and public sector reform. I perceive studying the public policy program as preparing my board to ride this wave of change,' Iwan says. Iwan describes Heinz College as a nurturing and rigorous learning environment that stimulates his intellectual capacity. 'It is easy to be inspired because the lecturers are the best in their areas of expertise and are willing to share their knowledge in a passionate way,' he says. 'I believe by becoming a Carnegie Mellon graduate so many possibilities will open up for me.'
Kunal Sunil Shah, India
Master of Science in Information Technology
26 year-old Kunal Sunil Shah says studying the Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) at Carnegie Mellon University, Heinz College Australia has taught him much about the world. Before coming to Carnegie Mellon, Kunal worked in his family's business in Ichalkaranji, India, where he gained a solid understanding of business processes and information technology. Kunal then completed a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Shivaji University, and worked for an Indian software company for three years. Kunal says he was looking for a degree that reflected his experiences, when he came across Carnegie Mellon's MSIT program and applied. 'Studying at Carnegie Mellon has been a very rewarding experience. I have transformed from a person who was confused about where I wanted my career to go, to a person who is far more confident,' Kunal says. 'Carnegie Mellon gave me an understanding of what I am, what I can achieve and what I can be.' Kunal worked as a Teacher Assistant (TA) for Carnegie Mellon for four IT classes: Object Orientated Technology using Java, Global IT Management, Database Management and Global IT Sourcing.
