Courses

The Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) is available as a one-year track program and the Master of Science in Information Technology (Information Technology Management) (MSIT (ITM)) as a two-year track program.

Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) - One-year Track
The MSIT one-year track program is available to students with three years or more professional experience.

The MSIT one-year track requires 144 units:

  • 66 units of core courses (optional 12 unit Information Systems Project)
  • 66 units of elective courses

Master of Science in Information Technology (Information Technology Management) (MSIT (ITM)) - Two-year Track
The MSIT (ITM) two-year track program is available to students with less than three years professional experience.

  • The MSIT (ITM) two-year track requires 168 Units:
  • 114 units of core courses
  • 30 units of elective courses
  • 24 unit capstone project (Information Systems Project)
  • One full-semester internship

Students have the opportunity to study one semester at Carnegie Mellon University's Pittsburgh campus through the University Exchange Program.

Learning Outcomes
At completion of the MSIT or MSIT (ITM) program, graduates will be able to competently:

  • Design, document and develop robust, extensible and highly maintainable data-intensive applications using cutting edge technologies tailored to the specific needs of any business scenario
  • Explain and apply the core aspects of information technology principles and tools, and manage their implementation in a business context
  • Understand and facilitate the strategic and operational benefits of business models and technology applications
  • Manage complex IT projects with consideration of the human, financial and environmental factors and an understanding of risk management processes, and operational and policy implications
  • Understand the strengths and limitations of current technologies and apply them intelligently to meet the needs of each application
  • Apply their practical experience in IT projects developed through assessment projects for real world clients focussing on technology auditing and recommendations, and system development
  • Utilise high level interpersonal skills to negotiate and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders verbally and in writing

The Master of Science in Public Policy and Management (MSPPM) is available as a one-year and two-year track program.

Master of Science in Public Policy and Management (MSPPM) - One-year Track
The MSPPM one-year track program is available to students with significant professional experience, providing them the opportunity to tailor courses to meet their career requirements and specialisations.

The MSPPM one-year track requires 168 units:

  • 144 units of core courses
  • 12 units of elective courses
  • 12 unit capstone project (Information System Synthesis Project)

Master of Science in Public Policy and Management (MSPPM) - Two-year Track
The MSPPM two-year track program is available to students with less than three years professional experience. Through the two-year track program students undertake an internship with public and private companies, and government agencies, providing them with practical experience in public policy and management.

The MSPPM two-year track requires 198 units:

  • 144 units of core courses
  • 42 units of elective courses
  • 12 unit capstone project (Information System Synthesis Project)
  • One full-semester internship

Students have the opportunity to study one semester at Carnegie Mellon University's Pittsburgh campus, and may also participate in programs at the Washington, DC campus, through the University Exchange Program.

Learning Outcomes
At completion of the MSPPM program, graduates will be able to competently:

  • Assume positions in policy development, implementation and evaluation, and manage these functions in government, non-profit organisations, international organisations and the private sector
  • Implement skills in all aspects of management, including general management, leadership, organisation management, strategic planning, financial management, human resource management, and IT management
  • Utilise training grounded in theory and practical application of theory
  • Work in organisations in developed countries and countries with emerging economies
  • Understand how to analyse data and make effective management decisions
  • Look beyond traditional paradigms, looking instead to non-traditional path-breaking solutions
  • Advance the public interest by utilising exceptional analytical, quantitative and technical skills
