BNIT's English Language Centre is based at our Ithaca campus which is located in the inner-city suburb of Red Hill. The campus is easily accessible with free student parking facilities and is also well serviced by a range of convenient public transport options. Ithaca campus has a vibrant atmosphere coupled with pleasant leafy surrounds and is close to the Brisbane city centre.
Student Services
Brisbane North Institute of TAFE provides counselling, disability, international, learning and student support services across all campuses to assist you to successfully complete your course.
Student Counsellors are available across the Institute to assist students with course/career counselling, personal counselling, students experiencing financial difficulties, interaction with Institute staff on behalf of students and advice about services available in the community.
Student Support Officers are responsible for a wide range of activities across the Institute. These include assisting students with resume writing and interview
techniques, assisting students to secure suitable employment by providing a 'Job Placement Service', undertaking orientation/information sessions for students and provision of support and assistance to the Student Representative Council.
BNIT also has dedicated International Student Officers who provide a range of support and services to prospective and current international students regarding issues concerning their enrolment, visa or health cover. They can also assist with referrals to other student support services.
Courses
General English - Whether you are a beginner or advanced, BNIT can help with your needs in mastering the English language. BNIT delivers an extensive ELICOS (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students) program that is accredited by the National ELT Accreditation Scheme (NEAS) and offers a scope of levels from elementary to advanced. We help you to develop and practice your conversational fluency through exciting methods such as class discussions on current affairs and media studies, free excursions and the use of computer assisted language learning. Our qualified teachers assist students to learn and improve their English in a warm and friendly environment with a focus on ensuring students can use their English in real life situations.
From General English to Further Study - Successful completion of BNIT's upper intermediate English language studies will enable graduates entry into BNIT's certificate and diploma programs in areas including aged care, animal services, arts, business studies, children's services, community welfare, commercial cookery, events, graphic design, horticulture, hospitality, information technology, justice administration and travel and tourism. BNIT's diploma programs also offer established direct entry pathways into bachelor degree programs at top Queensland universities with up to one year credit.
Certificate IV in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) - Over the many years BNIT has been training teachers to teach English to speakers of other languages, we have built an excellent reputation as a TESOL teacher training institute, seeing our graduates gain employment both in Australia and overseas. The Certificate IV in TESOL at BNIT is offered online (it can be completed online in your home country), followed by four weeks of intensive practical workshops (on campus in Brisbane) which includes practice teaching and classroom observation. The Certificate IV in TESOL is an academic course enabling participants to acquire the necessary knowledge and practical skills for teaching English in the classroom for overseas students.

Tomoko Ito, Japan
ELICOS
Tomoko has visited friends in Australia several times as a tourist and has always enjoyed her stay here. 'Aussies are so friendly and kind and the weather is good to me'. After her last visit, Tomoko decided she wanted to study Children Services in Australia but needed to improve her English skills first. Tomoko?s preference was for Government Colleges - a friend of hers recommended Brisbane North Institute of TAFE. 'My English was very poor, but now I have more confidence in my English'. Since graduating from her ELICOS class in June 2010, Tomoko says she already misses her class. 'I feel that they helped my shyness. I made a lot of new friends from different countries and I am more relaxed. I also have the greatest teacher in the world. I never met such a great teacher like her. The International Team are also very friendly and helped me a lot. I learnt about grammar, correct pronunciation and listening which improved my English for my next course.' After completing her ELICOS studies, Tomoko will be commence her Diploma of Children Services (Early Childhood Development) studies at BNIT. 'Do I recommend others to study at BNIT? Yes, absolutely!
